Admission of Fundamental Failure/Bias of Numerous Biology Scientists, Outlined in the November 2003 Issue of Scientific American Magazine; We will first quote the article and then explain what it proves about trusting scientific dogma in general. Remember that DNA has been put forward by almost all biology scientists as being the total information source and thus explaining all of life and evolution. On page 49 in an article about the now admitted fact that the DNA in the genome cannot fully explain life, the article author says; "I think this will become a classic story of orthodoxy derailing objective analysis of the facts, in this case for a quarter of a century." Mattick says. The failure to recognize the full implications of this--particularly the possibility that the intervening noncoding sequences may be transmitting parallel information in the form of RNA molecules--may well go down as one of the biggest mistakes in the history of molecular biology." On page 48 the author says; "there is no longer any doubt that a new theory is needed to replace the central dogma that has been the foundation of molecular genetics and biotechnology since the 1950s." This is an astonishing statement for a scientist in the field to be making in a reputable science publication. We commend the author for his intellectual courage and wonder if the editors of the magazine understood the full implications of the admission about the basic failure of science to separate dogma and orthodoxy from fact. This is not simple the understandable and unavoidable individual human failures, but an example of the fundamental failing of the science community not recognizing (being close minded about) the truth for more than 50 years! The clear implication is that even 50 years of science pronouncements and nearly universal agreement by scientists until recently about a theory does not prove that theory to be the truth. Biological science relies far to much on dogma and orthodoxy and even worse in fact discourages and even vilifies anyone who questions the dogma until the dogma failure is so obvious that finally someone who is intellectually honest and courageous (willing to put their career and financial situation on the line) states what has be obvious to many outside the field for a long time. One could ask what harm has been done and say human failures are to be expected. The answers are that the harm is that science is being misdirected (paid in large part by tax money) and money and time wasted. Even worse, honest pursuit of the truth is not being permitted by the science bureaucracy. Even worse still, bad science is being used to support atheistic propaganda about science supposedly having the answers to all of life's questions thus causing a deterioration of societies morals and values. Dogmatic science is also being depended upon to make judgments about environmental risks which might ultimately cause major catastrophes dues to decisions being made from a dogmatic position which is not open to all the hard scientific facts. Science does pose serious risks to society. The author of the reference scientific American article has done society a favor in admitting the truth about the limits of science.
