WHAT
SCIENCE "ASSUMES" ABOUT GOD; Nobel prize winning scientist in Physiology and Medicine Christian de Duve says in his book "Life Evolving" page 284; "Scientific inquiry rests on the notion that all manifestations in the universe are explainable in natural terms without supernatural intervention. Strictly speaking, this notion is not an a priori a philosophical stand or profession of belief. It is a postulate which we should be ready to abandon if faced with facts which defy every attempt at rational explanation." (Our colors and bold font.) In terms of direct knowledge of God, one fact is very simple; science cannot test God and has no such direct knowledge about God. ZERO! None! Science assumes it can completely understand reality, but this is purely a philosophical assumption and not based on any hard science fact. It cannot be known if this assumption is always valid, but sadly it is assumed to be true and is the basis often for misleading atheistic pronouncements. There is nothing wrong with such an assumption as long as one does not lose sight of the fact there is absolutely no hard science which leads to the assumption that science can understand, let alone explain all of reality. There are a number of deep issues of reality which science will probably never explain. The problem is that with all the successes of science in understanding the relationships of the physical properties of the universe, many scientists and the general public has lost sight of the limits of science. It is now taken for granted that science can eventually explain everything, and that is only an assumption not scientifically provable and not based on any science hard truth. It is important to remember that science is only able to provide firm answers about physical relationships. In other words, all science tells us is if "this" is done or "this" occurs, then "that" will happen. Science then generates a model (theory) to hopefully provide the ability to predict the relationship that would be found to exist if some other related physical relationship is tested in the laboratory. Science does not give us any deep "why" answers. Operational answers do not really answer why questions at the deepest level. Science is far more limited than most people realize. There are in fact, a number of areas where science will probably never be able to provide real understanding beyond describing basic functional relationships, and included in that list is God's existence and His relationship to the material universe.
